"No good deed goes unpunished"~Wicked!

You know, I'm actually quite grateful for this post. Yes, I have thought about this topic quite a bit, but there were 4 ideas that really interested me. Therefore I will use this blog as a discussion board between me, myself and I and each of our views on what to write for the Bibliographic essay.
First idea is *trumpet sounding*: The frustration part of tutoring based on "(Non)Meeting of the Minds: A study in Frustration" by Nicole Kraemer Munday. I think this would be a fantastic subject to write on because we all know it's going to happen. The tutor will try to say "Well, this sounds better" and the tutee will say "Oh, no... I like this.." Frustration builds after a while. By the end of the session, both tutee and tutor want to gauge out their eyes. Lovely picture, eh? However, I'm looking at the essay and Munday lists only 2 sources for further reading. I'm also thinking that while studying frustration, I'll in turn become frustrated, as well. Furthermore, I don't believe I can muster up 10 pages on the topic. So, I'm now thinking I don't want to do that topic. Good discussion. On to the next.
Second, I think an essay on reluctant writers (based off of Muriel Harris' "Talk to me: Engaging Reluctant Writers") could be useful. As tutors, we've all been put in the situation where our tutee clearly wishes to be elsewhere. How do we deal with them? How can we be done with the session and feel we have accomplished something? Also, a lot of points can be expressed in this essay and Harris lists a lot of sources I can go to for further reading. This is a definite possibility.
Next idea is trying to make creative writers, based off of "Is there a creative writer in the house? Tutoring to enhance creativity and engagement". Gina told me I should do this one because it's something tutors need help explaining. I agree, it's something that tutors can talk with tutees about to make the tutees paper better. There are also a lot of sources I can use for further reading. However, while it's important, it doesn't really interest me. It's painful to write 10 pages on something that does not really interest me.
Lastly, I could write about Organizing Ideas based off of Alice L. Trupe's essay. This is something that a lot of tutees need help on, and so the essay I write could be useful. There are also 10 sources listed. Yet, I don't think I can write 10 interesting pages on organizing ideas without sounding repetitive.
So the winner is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Engaging Reluctant Writers!!!
All right, so, Happy Holidays! :)

It's That Time in the Semester

I'm sure that none of you have let this slip through the cracks, so I'm certain that you'll all have an answer straight away to this question.  Here it is:

What are you thinking about writing about in your bibliographic essay?

Today for You, Tomorrow for Me!

I went to bed at 5am last night (or morning, rather). I got up at 7, did morning rituals somehow and somewhere...ended up in my car to school, and got to school in one piece at 9 (on time to class because of parking in Dee Events instead of the road beside it...what's with those evil red curbs they've painted? jerks.) Classes from 9 to 12-ish. Went to move my car. Got another ticket (had one last week, oh the humanity! just get a parking pass? NEVER!). Have been tutoring since 1 and will be doing so until 4. Will drive home, then get ready for work at my other job (the one that actually wins the bread) at 5:30 until 9-ish. Did I mention I've only had two hours of sleep? When I get back from work, I will be up till who-knows-when to pack for my trip to San Francisco. We're leaving aroung 8-ish for the airport...I'm going to be...tired I think...
Maybe while I pack I can be festive by wearing orange and black socks, and eating candy intended for trick-or-treaters. Happy Halloween.
-_- I've come to bring the word: They will be among you soon, Cameron. Soon...

Halloween Prompt

Well, this certainly isn't going to take 500 words. I have a midterm on Friday, so I'll be spending my Halloween holiday doing what I love -- studying.

"Seven days!!!"

Oh, dear. Plans for Halloween? I’m not exactly sure at the moment. My original plans were to have a few friends over, buy a bunch of the traditional Halloween foods (Caramel Apples, etc… It’s the time of year when you remember why they don’t sell Candy Corn at any other time of the year. ) and watch episodes of “Ghost Hunters” and watch scary movies. Then, my sister-in-law called to let me know that she would like it if I’d go to the “married peoples” Halloween party she’s throwing and for me to bring a date. Can you imagine the conversations I would have trying to find a date? “Um, yeah. Would you go to a married peoples Halloween Party with me? You’d be a real life saver.” Yeah, don’t think so. Thankfully, my brother called to let me know that they wouldn’t be hurt if I didn’t want to go. Now I’ll probably go back to the original plans, but without the scary movies. I know, I’m a wimp, but I don’t mind. I had a bunch of friends over at my house Friday night and we decided to watch The Ring. Now, I didn’t think the movie would be so bad. Mainly because the lady at Blockbuster said it was the lamest scary movie ever. I’ll have you know that I was grabbing onto my blanket for dear life throughout the entire movie. I will not watch another scary movie ever again. Or at least ‘til next year when I’ve forgotten my loathing for scary movies and try again.

China for Halloween

My plans for Halloween are actually quite thrilling. I have to get up at five in the God-forsaken morning, so that we can drive to the airport and wait for two hours. I know that it is possible that the lines will be long, and I would rather be safe than miss my flight But I know that I will get through the line in ten minutes, and then, I will sit around for two hours before I board a plane, where I will sit for another two hours. Then I have a two-hour layover to sit until I board a plane in which I will sit for seventeen more hours.

So unfortunately, I will be sitting for Halloween instead of joining the festivities, but I will be in China after that, so I really don’t care! And, I was lucky enough to dress up this weekend and go to a Halloween party. So at least I had a little Halloween fun.

halloween plans

Halloween plans?
hmm...let's see, if I remember correctly, Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, which means only one thing for me and that thing is basketball practice. Halloween is my team's final chance for a tune-up before our first National Wheelchair Basketball Association Division III tournament in Mesa/Phoenix, Arizona this weekend, which should be an interesting experience. Practice ends around 9pm, after which I will probably go home, take a shower and hit the sack, as we will be driving to Arizona on Thursday. I think that will be the extent of my Halloween plans this year.
